Energy Storage For A Better World

Battery Storage Technology

Our first commercial product is a grid-scale, iron-air battery capable of cost-effectively storing 100 hours of energy. Made with iron, one of the most abundant minerals on Earth, this battery system will enable a reliable electric grid year-round.

Grid Modeling Software

Formware™ is our next generation investment and operational model for power grids.  It has the ability to optimize over multi-year, hourly resolution data sets to capture real-world weather variability, resulting in more reliable and cost-effective designs for power systems.

Notable Progress

  • Deployed world’s first grid-connected iron-air battery system for testing in the field in the Sacramento Valley region of California and continued to ramp testing and verification in total to 13,500+ subscale cells, 250+ full-scale cells, and 18 modules
  • Signed over 4 gigawatt hours of commercial contracts with leading utilities and energy entities, including Xcel Energy, Dominion Energy, the California Energy Commission, and NYSERDA
  • Completed construction of Form Factory 1, a state-of-the-art, 550,000+ square foot manufacturing facility
  • Selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to deploy the largest energy storage project by energy capacity announced yet in the world – an 85 MW/8,500 MWh project in Maine
